Morgantown is a city in Monongalia County, West Virginia, on the banks of the Monongahela River and is part of the Pittsburgh DMA. Morgantown is the largest city in North-Central West Virginia and is the principal city of and is included in the Morgantown, West Virginia Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 26,809 at the 2000 census. Morgantown is home to West Virginia University, which constitutes 913 acres (3.7 km²) of the city and vicinity, and with the fall 2005 enrollment added an additional population of 26,051 students from every state, the District of Columbia, and 89 other nations. Morgantown is the county seat of Monongalia CountyGR6. The city was founded by Zackquill Morgan.
